|Frankly I don't know how I can manage this month without junk food|
and kitten cuddles. Happy NaNoWriMo!
After finishing the prologue, two thoughts occurred to Laura. First, five in the morning was damned early to wake up. And second, she was in for one hell of a ride this November.
Now that it's Nov. 1, and officially National Novel Writing Month, I'm thinking in third person. At least a little.
I wasn't able to stay awake to start NaNoWriMo at midnight, but woke up at 5 to make an early start of it. So far so good thanks to my writing buddy, Mr. Bingley, a can of chips and a sugar free energy drink.
The story I am writing is one I conceived in December 2007 while I was working the cops desk as an intern at a newspaper. After filing my stories each evening, I usually had a couple of hours to kill before I had the OK to go home, in case there was breaking news I needed to cover. Basically alone, with the exception of the night editor and a few copy editors and sports reporters, I began crafting a holiday-themed story.
I never forgot that story and thought about it each December after. I wanted to develop it and see the finished product. This November, I'm not only hoping to get past the 50,000-word mark, but want to bring this story as close to its finish as possible.
I'm excited to participate in NaNoWriMo for a third time. The first two experiences were so positive -- and sometimes aggravating, and overwhelming, and made me a little crazy -- I feel more relaxed this time around. I know what works and does not work for me. If I can just follow the precedent, everything will be fine.
I will do my best to continue posting regularly throughout the month. There may come days I skip (and I'm putting Reading in the Kitchen and Lit Adventures on hiatus until December), but this is something I have to do.
Now that I've given you an update, it is back to writing for me.
