change in course

As my writing career moves to its next step, I am faced with a dilemma. Do I continue to actively review books or spend that time and energy writing?

After great consideration, and plenty of flip-flopping, I have decided to end my run as an official book reviewer.

I have  several books I have already agreed to review, and I hope to fulfill those commitments in the upcoming months. But after that, I will stop reviews as an official part of my blog in July.

I take pride in the reviews I have written. I endeavor to be fair to the author and readers. I try to read the books and write the reviews in a timely manner. At present my writing and 9-5 job require most of my energy. Because of that fact, I can no longer commit to completing reviews in a quality way.

I began reviewing books at my college newspaper, because they needed someone to do it and I loved reading. After graduating and starting this blog, I continued the tradition for the same reason. I needed content and I loved books.

I wrote reviews for the stories I read, never dreaming that people would ask me to review their books. I consider myself lucky to have received such a warm response to my reviews. I discovered many new authors and stories I might not have found on my own. I've made many friends I cherish throughout this process. I am truly blessed.

I will continue to spotlight fellow authors and share information about their latest releases. I'll also continue to post reviews for the books I read on Goodreads. I may even occasionally post my thoughts in a book or series here on the blog if a story moves me greatly.

I sincerely appreciate the many authors who have shared their stories with me during the past few years. Your words added entertainment and intrigue to my life, and I will forever value them.

Thank you for following me on this part of my literary journey. I hope you will continue to find value in my blog and the future posts to come.

  1. I think that's great that you are going to focus on your writing. It's hard to make time to write, so you gotta do what you gotta do! All the best!

    1. Thanks, Jackie. You're always so sweet and supportive. I can't wait to read your next book!

  2. I'm so happy for you, Laura! I've often thought about doing this too...maybe reading this announcement is a sign. I wish you all the best on your writing journey!

  3. I'll miss your reviews! I always loved your take on books because we usually had similar thoughts. That being said, I think it's great you're recognizing that your efforts are better spent on your writing right now. Good luck with it and I can't wait to read what you publish :)
